BETHLEHEM, Pa. - State stores across Pennsylvania are limiting some liquor purchases to two bottles per day.
At least 40 items are on the list, including brands of champagne, bourbon, tequila, whiskey and cognac. The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board (PLCB) says like many commodities right now, there’s just not enough of certain items.
Kathleen Iacocca, an associate professor of business at Villanova University, said low supplies of packaging materials may affect production.
“There’s plastic tops that have to go onto these glass bottles and paper labels. So, there’s quite a bit more that goes into it than just the contents. And that’s where we’re really starting to see a massive supply chain issue,” said Iacocca.
Iacocca said companies across the country are low on product parts, packaging materials and manpower.
“We need truckers to drive trucks, regardless of whether they’re carrying alcohol or toys for Christmas. And we need docks to be unloaded. You will continue to see this,” said Iacocca. “As the holiday season ramps up, demand typically goes up.”
Right now, the alcohol rations include 2% of state store products. The new alcohol sale rule affects state store customers, bars, and restaurants.
