On June 24, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention extended its federal eviction moratorium through July 31. U.S. Rep. Susan Wild (D-Lehigh/Monroe) says there are federal dollars available for Lehigh Valley residents who need rental assistance.

EASTON, Pa. - On June 24, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention extended its federal eviction moratorium through July 31. U.S. Rep. Susan Wild (D-Lehigh/Monroe) says there are federal dollars available for Lehigh Valley residents who need rental assistance.

Wild held an online forum on June 23 about Emergency Rental Assistance programs in Lehigh, Northampton, and Monroe counties.

We wanted to make sure that our communities, elected leaders, and all of our organizations are helping friends and neighbors during this time. But also that people know that there is this assistance out there and they should be applying for it if they need it,” Wild says.

So far, $5.7 million of the $11 million available for Lehigh County has been given out, says  Alissa Baratta, executive director of the Third Street Alliance for Women and Children in Easton.

“Smaller landlords have been really very interested. But we've also seen some larger landlords step up and say you know we have multiple households that are affected. How can you work with us?” Baratta says.

CDC officials say they intend for the most recent eviction moratorium extension to be the last.
