BETHLEHEM, Pa. — The night before a planned DUI roving patrol, state police clocked an underage, intoxicated driver in a vehicle traveling 109 mph on Route 378, according to a release.
Jack Campbell, 18, of Wind Gap, was behind the wheel of a 2015 black Honda Civic around 11 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8 when the vehicle he was operating was clocked on radar going double the speed limit, state police allege.
The posted speed limit in the area is 55 mph.
A vehicle stop was conducted at Route 378 north and Route 22 east and a strong odor of alcohol was detected coming from the vehicle, the release said.
Campbell was asked to perform field sobriety tests and submit to a breathalyzer and subsequently was placed under arrest for suspicion of DUI, police said in the release.
The five passengers in Campbell’s vehicle all were under the age of 21 and also found to be intoxicated, according to the release.
All of them admitted to coming from and consuming alcohol at Musikfest, the release said.
12 DUIs followed during roving patrol
The next night, troopers from PSP Troop M conducted a DUI roving patrol in Northampton County that began at 10 p.m. (Saturday, Aug. 9) and ended at 3 a.m. Sunday morning.
Police said that patrol also netted:
- 12 DUI arrests
- 1 misdemeanor arrest
- 2 people with outstanding warrants
- 5 underage drinking arrests
- 20 traffic citations
Police also issued 41 traffic warnings during the patrol, according to a release.
