Easton woman charged with animal cruelty in dog shooting case in Bethlehem

An Easton woman has been arrested and charged with animal cruelty, the Northampton County District Attorney’s Office said Friday.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — An Easton woman has been arrested and charged with animal cruelty related to a shooting incident in Bethlehem, the Northampton County District Attorney’s Office announced Friday.

Becky Carrasquillo Rodriguez is accused of breaking into a home in the 1500 block of Woodbine Street and shooting the homeowner's dog, a release said.

According to the release, police responded June 11 for a report of a woman shooting a gun at a house. Upon further investigation, it was determined that the shooter had entered the home and shot a dog belonging to the occupants.

The dog, Ruby, later died from its injuries.

Carrasquillo Rodriguez has been charged with burglary, criminal trespass, discharge of a firearm into an occupied structure, recklessly endangering another person, cruelty to animals and aggravated cruelty to animals.

Carrasquillo Rodriguez waived her preliminary hearing, according to court records. She's being held at Northampton County Prison in lieu of $500,000 bail.

A formal arraignment in Northampton County Court is scheduled for Nov. 21
