BETHLEHEM, Pa. — The city is bringing in two state grants to bolster its Northside and Southside commercial corridors, according to the Bethlehem Economic Development Corp.
Offered through the Commonwealth Main Street Matters program, they include a $46,875 planning grant for the SouthSide Arts District to fund initiatives such as a five-year strategy “aimed at enhancing the district’s identity as a cultural and creative hub.”
SouthSide Arts District Manager Erin Zebertavage called the Main Street Matters Planning Grant “a transformational opportunity.”

“This funding allows us to build a bold, community-driven strategic plan that reflects who we are: a dynamic hub for arts, culture, and small business,” Zebertavage said.
“As we work toward official Main Street designation, this grant gives us the tools to shape a thriving future rooted in creativity, economic vitality, and community pride.”
The Main Street Matters funding also includes a $35,000 Business Improvement Grant pool — businesses may apply for up to $5,000 each — “to assist in direct enhancements” in the Northside Alive and SouthSide Arts District commercial districts.
That money may be used for marketing and promotions, capital purchases and interior improvements, for example.
Small businesses at the forefront
Main Street Matters money through the state is set aside to “support revitalization efforts in planning, business support, aesthetic improvements, and the increase of safety and security,” according to the state Department of Community and Economic Development website.
“Main Street Matters is about connecting vision to action,” BEDCO Executive Director Sean Ziller said.
“We’re thrilled to receive these funds, which will directly benefit our small businesses in ways that put their needs at the center.”
Ziller is also the city deputy director of economic development.
