  • Bethlehem Area Public Library will hold two festivals on Nov. 10 and 11
  • AppleFest, co-hosted by Scholl Orchards, will be 4-6 p.m. Nov. 11
  • 11Fest, celebrating Studio 11, will be from 5 to 11 p.m. Nov. 11

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — If you can’t get out to the orchard this year to pick apples, there might be a fun alternative right in your backyard next month.

And the next day, there also will be a series of concerts.

All are part of the same weekend of fall programming at Bethlehem Area Public Library.

The library will hold its first BAPL AppleFest in collaboration with Scholl Orchards 4 -6 p.m. Nov. 10.

The fest will feature 10 apple varieties in a guided tasting format, as well as a variety of family-friendly activities, including a visit from PBS39’s Telebear.

Jake Scholl, a farmer at Scholl Orchards, also will be in attendance to answer questions.

Available to buy at the event will be fall-themed baked goods — including cookies, apple cider donuts and pumpkin rolls — from Back Door Bakeshop.

“It'll be a lot of great representation of local food. Bethlehem Food Co-Op, Scholl Orchards, so local farms and local businesses in Bethlehem; bringing that together in a really tasty way.”

Bethlehem Food Co-Op will provide children’s activities.

Overview of the system

On Nov. 11, the day after AppleFest, will be 11Fest, a day meant to celebrate and raise money for Studio 11, the free recording studio at BAPL’s main location.

Held from 5 to 11 p.m. at 11 W. Church St., 11Fest will feature 11 local musical artists: Emma Bockrath, Jillian Dolan, Ben Lowell, Rhyming on the Beat, Erik Santana, MARIL WYD, Fictional Name, Zel, Zoinks, Time Being, Bellweather Ritual and Goat Wizard.

"Throughout the night, we want to crank it up to 11."
Amresse Farrow, BAPL development and marketing specialist, on 11Fest

“11Fest is an amazing, really fun event where we start off kind of mid-energy and we get higher throughout the day," Farrow said.

We "start off with maybe like, you know, an acoustic set, and one person that maybe just sings a bit or they have a bit of a calmer act, and throughout the night, we want to crank it up to 11.”

That's a reference to a line from the 1984 rock mocumentary "This is Spinal Tap."

Farrow said 11Fest is BAPL’s second-largest annual fundraiser and, in addition, is meant to raise awareness for the recording studio and other resources that Studio 11 has to offer to the community.
