BETHLEHEM, Pa - Bethlehem's Payrow Plaza is getting a pretty sweet gift from 'Santa' this year, and it involves an eco-friendly makeover.
- Bethlehem received a $50,000 beautification grant
- The money is going towards eco-friendly lights and a 15-foot star on Payrow Plaza around City Hall
- The star will light up on Nov. 18 at 5 p.m., at the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony
According to a news release, the plaza will shine brighter than ever this holiday season thanks to a $50,000 beautification grant.
The money will go towards thousands of eco-friendly LED lights hung around the rotunda and library.
But the star of the show is quite literally, a giant star. At 15 feet, the attraction will light up the night sky.
“The community can interact with the piece while spreading the spirit of sustainability.”Angela DelGrosso Stein, director of Mayor’s Initiatives
“We are excited to display the new eco-friendly star on Payrow Plaza,” said Angela DelGrosso Stein, director of Mayor’s Initiatives, in the release. “The community can interact with the piece while spreading the spirit of sustainability.”
She said the decorations tie into the City of Bethlehem’s Climate Action Plan.
The funds come from a hotel tax grant from Northampton County and additional donations, the release said.
“I’m so excited to combine classic Bethlehem traditions like those window candles,” said Tammy Wendling, vice president of the Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce, “with new traditions like visiting this gorgeous new star.”
The star officially lights up at Bethlehem’s Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony on Nov. 18. The event starts at 5 p.m.
