BETHLEHEM, Pa. — The unsettled weather has had another impact on Musikfest — one that has affected the sphere of the festival.
That's sphere as in eVenti Verticali SPHERE — an outdoor performance in which five aerialists perform in a sphere suspended from a crane 60 feet above the ground.
The spectacle is making its U.S. debut at Musikfest.
With the expected inclement weather over the next few days, eVenti Verticali SPHERE will move from its original location — Handwerkplatz in the Colonial Quarter on Bethlehem's Northside to SteelStacks on Bethlehem's Southside.
The show will be offered on Lehigh Valley Public Media's plaza and ArtsQuest's Town Square.
Lehigh Valley Public Media — made up of PBS39, WLVR-91.3 Radio and LehighValleyNews.com — will be a presenting sponsor of the spectacle.
“Hurricane Debby is trying its best to be a Debby Downer," ArtsQuest Chief Programming Officer Patrick Brogan said of how the storm has brought rainy weather this week to the festival.
"But thanks to PBS39 we are still able to premiere this incredible spectacle during Musikfest and we couldn’t be more excited and grateful."
Performances now will take place at 7, 9 and 11 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, and 5, 7 and 9 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11.
From Italy, eVenti Verticali’s SPHERE presented is a 30-minute performance that begins with the transparent sphere deflated and shapeless with one aerialist suspended inside.
The sphere is raised by a crane, becoming a gigantic, fully inflated globe, transforming into a place where everything comes alive.
"The aerialists take the audience on a journey reflecting on our miraculous lives here, on our planet earth," ArtsQuest said in a news release.
Musikfest concludes its 11-day run on Sunday.
