Joe Russo's Almost Dead is led by Russo, who was drummer in the Grateful Dead splinter group Furthur with Dead guitarist Bob Weir and bassist Phil Lesh.

Joe Russo’s Nearly Dead is known for its intermingling of the Grateful Dead’s sound with more contemporary progressive rock and jazz fusion.

The group formed in 2013. Early in its history, Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh occasionally filled in for Almost Dead's Dave Dreiwitz, and John Mayer, who plays guitar in the Grateful Dead legacy Band Dead and Company, also has performed with Almost Dead.

The group in past years played at the Allman Brothers-curated Peach Festival at The Pavilion at Montage in Scranton.
