BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Christmas City is welcoming a new holiday event in early December.

  • Christmas City Lovefeast is coming to Bethlehem starting Dec. 4
  • The community breakfast will feature continental breakfast items and more
  • Tickets to the event can be used to access Christkindlmarkt

Christmas City Lovefeast, a community breakfast hosted by the Citizens Christmas City, is coming to Bethlehem’s Christkindlmarkt 8-10 a.m. on Dec. 4.

"The holiday season is the perfect time to gather in celebration of community and togetherness,” said Brittney Ciardi, assistant vice president of Bethlehem Initiatives for the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce in a written statement. “This year, we will honor Moravian traditions from the Lovefeast to our trellis ornaments, including the classic candle in the window.”

The breakfast, as Strong Mountain Media PR Coordinator Elizabeth Reeves said in an email, includes classic American breakfast foods such as “scrambled eggs, pancakes, bacon, sausage and continental breakfast items.”

The food will also be “served buffet style,” Reeves added.

Originating in the first gathering of Christians after Pentecost, Lovefeasts have been an important tradition in the Moravian Church worshiping the Lord and celebrating the fellowship of His followers.

“It is interesting to see such a person yield to the spirit of devotion which pervades the service and change in a very few moments from visitor to reverent member of the service.”
The Moravian Church website

According to the Moravian Church website, participants of Lovefeasts are usually drawn by the concept of “eating in church,” which has also made the Lovefeast a "means of grace" and a special celebration, especially during Christmas.

For more information, non-refundable tickets are available on the event website. The event will take place indoors, rain or shine.

Tickets to the Lovefeast will also get you into Christkindlmarkt, for even more festive holiday shopping and live music.

Proceeds of the ticket sales will go toward Citizen’s Christmas City Committee, an organization devoted to bringing Christmas to the community.
