ALLENTOWN, Pa. — Emo music is coming back — and coming back to the Lehigh Valley.
The 2000s genre that combined punk music with emotional, confessional music and put acts such as Jimmy Eat World, Taking Back Sunday, My Chemical Romance and Dashboard Confessional on top of the charts is seeing a resurgence.
Taking Back Sunday, for example, will headline Bethlehem's summer Musikfest festival on Aug. 8.
Now, another emo act will perform at Allentown's Archer Music Hall, marking the 20th anniversary of its most successful album, it was announced Tuesday.
Tickets, the prices of which were not immediately released, go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 9, at the Archer website or at the box office.Archer Music Hall website
Secondhand Serenade, the acoustic rocker who had the double-platinum hit "Fall for You" in 2008 and put three songs in the Top 20 on Billboard's Indie Albums chart, will perform at 7 p.m. Friday, June 19.
Opening the show will be 2000s rockers Every Avenue, whose 2011 album "Bad Habits" hit the Top 10 on Billboard's Alternative and Indie albums charts.
The show will be in the Archer's smaller Arrow room.
Tickets, the prices of which were not immediately released, go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 9, at the Archer website or at the box office at 939 Hamilton St., Allentown.
A decade of success
Secondhand Serenade released its debut album, "Awake," in 2005, and it hit No. 3 on Billboard's Heatseekers chart. It included the minor pop hit "Vulnerable."
The Archer show will mark the 20th anniversary of the album's release.
But Secondhand Serenade had its biggest success with 2008's "A Twist in My Story," which peaked at No. 6 on the Indie chart and included "Fall For You."

That song peaked at No. 6 on the Pop chart and No. 21 on the overall Singles chart.
The 2010 album "Hear Me Now" reached No. 7 on the Indie chart, but Secondhand Serenade didn't have another charting single until 2017, when "Lost" from a re-release of "Awake" became a minor hit in 2017.
"Undefeated" in 2014 was Secondhand Serenade's most recent album, though he released a series of singles in 2019.

Lehigh Valley native Alex Seier played guitar and sang backup vocals for Secondhand Serenade for several years.
Secondhand Serenade also played the club Reverb in Reading on his 10th anniversary tour for the album “Awake” in 2017.
Every Avenue first hit the charts in 2008 with the album "Shh, Just Go with It," which hit No. 27 on the Heatseekers chart.
The group's final disc was 2011's "Bad Habits," which hit the Top 10 on the Indie and Alternative charts.
