Top salsa band announced as preview night headliner for Musikfest

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — A top Salsa band that in the past 40 years has put nine discs in the Top 20 on Billboard's Tropical chart will be a headliner of Musikfest's main stage, it was announced Monday.

Colombian band Grupo Niche, whose album "Cielo De Tambores" hit No. 3 on that chart, will perform at 6 p.m. July 30, as a preview night for the festival, which will run July 31-Aug. 9.

Tickets, at $42.75-$89.50, go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 13, at the ArtsQuest website and at the ArtsQuest box office 101 Founders Way, Bethlehem.

Founded in Colombia in 1978, Grupo Niche has had wide popularity throughout Latin America.

It released its debut album, "Al Pasito," in 1978, and, after two gold albums in Columbia, first hit Billboard's Tropical Albums chart with its sixth album, "Me Huele a Matrimonio," in 1986.

It had its biggest U.S. response with 1986's "Cielo de Tambores," which peaked at No. 3 on the Tropical chart.

Its 1995 album "Huellas del Pasado" crossed over to Billboard's Latin chart, peaking at No. 43.

Its last charting album in the United States was 2015's "35 Aniversario," which peaked at No. 6.

The group's latest album was 2020's "40."

The band is the seventh headliner announced for Musikfest's 43rd year.
