State Theatre announces a show that will have you shakin' your booty

EASTON, Pa. — If you go to Easton's State Theatre on March 28, be sure to put on your boogie shoes.

KC and The Sunshine Band, who had the hit “Boogie Shoes” in a run of six No. 1 songs and five others that hit the Top 40 from 1975 to ’79, will play State Theatre at 7:30 p.m. that day, it was announced Monday.

Tickets, at $90–$140, will go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 10 at the State Theatre website and at the box office at 453 Northampton St., Easton.

This year is the 50th anniversary of KC and The Sunshine Band's breakthrough hit, the chart-topping "Get Down Tonight."

From 1975-79, KC and The Sunshine Band probably more than any other helped to define disco music.

After "Get Down Tonight," it also had seven other No. 1 hit songs, starting with the the gold “That’s The Way (I Like It),” also in 1975.

Other chart-toppers were the gold "(Shake, Shake, Shake) Shake Your Booty" in 1976, which also won a Grammy Award; and the gold "I'm Your Boogie Man" and "Keep It Comin' Love," both in 1977.

"Please Don't Go" and "Yes I'm Ready (with Teri DeSario)" also both hit No. 1 in 1979, and 1978's "Boogie Shoes," while not a chart-topper, had platinum sales.

"Boogie Shoes" also appeared on the movie soundtrack for "Saturday Night Fever," which in 1979 sold 16 times platinum and won a five Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year.

KC and the Sunshine Band's last No. 1 hit was “Please Don’t Go,” but it then it had a surprise No. 2 hit in 1983 with “Give It Up.”

The band headlined Musikfest three times: in 2006 and 2013, both with a lineup of disco-era acts, and solo in 1997.

It also played the State Theatre in 2002.

Band frontman/singer/songwriter Harry Wayne Casey, will be 75 when they play State Theatre. The only other original band member is percussionist Fermin Goytisolo and vocalist Beverly Champion-Foster
