Putt U Miniature Golf's 25th anniversary features "The Craziest Mini-Golf Tournament Ever," where golfers are encouraged to play with anything but a putter.

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. — Putt U Miniature Golf is marking its 25th anniversary by holding what it's calling "The Craziest Mini-Golf Tournament Ever."

  • Putt U Miniature Golf will celebrate its 25th anniversary with "The Craziest Mini-Golf Tournament Ever" on July 22, featuring unconventional putting gadgets
  • The event aims to raise funds for Lehigh Valley charities, with Putt U donating a total of $10,000
  • Participants are challenged to play 18 holes using anything but a regular putter, encouraging creative and outrageous gadgets

The event will be at 9 a.m. July 22.

As part of the celebration, the company will donate a total of $10,000 to Lehigh Valley charities.

In the tournament, participants are challenged to play 18 holes of golf using anything but a regular putter.

"The only limitation [of] the putting gadget [is it] cannot be harmful to anyone, and cannot do any damage to our property."

As traditional golf clubs are prohibited, the event encourages golfers to unleash their creativity and bring the most outrageous and inventive putting gadgets they can imagine, Putt U officials said in a written statement.

"The owners of Putt U came up with this extremely unique idea as a fun way to raise money for local charities," Putt U President Randy Bloch said.

"The only limitation [of] the putting gadget [is it] cannot be harmful to anyone, and cannot do any damage to our property."

Putt U first held the event five years ago to celebrate its 20th anniversary, Bloch said.

In 2018, he said, he saw players show up with gadgets such as a frying pan, kitchen table leg, slingshot, hockey stick, plastic pink flamingo, artificial leg, pool noodles, PVC pipe, guitar and a 4-foot-tall sunflower plant.

"The 4-foot-tall sunflower plant turned out to be the most unique device," he said.

Winnings go toward local charities

Prizes will be awarded in two categories.

The golfer with the lowest score will have the opportunity to donate $2,500 to the qualified charitable organization of his or her choosing.

Additionally, a $2,500 donation will be made to the charitable organization of the participant with the "best-putting gadget," recognizing their innovative approach to the game.

Furthermore, 10 randomly selected charities each will get a $500 donation. The only requirement is that the chosen charities must serve local residents.

Those interested can register for the tournament. The entry fee of $25 includes lunch, door prizes, a commemorative T-shirt and a golf ball.

Although spots remain available, Bloch said he expects the event to have about 100 players, so visitors are encouraged to secure their spots promptly. All participants must register to take part in the event.
