Here are music acts you should see today, the ninth official day of Musikfest 2024, Saturday, Aug. 10:
Larry & Joe, 7:30 p.m. Americaplatz
Venezuelan Larry Bellorín is a legend of Llanera music and Joe Troop a Grammy Award-nominated bluegrass musician from North Carolina who together perform "Latingrass" — a fusion of Venezuelan and Appalachian folk music on harp, banjo, cuatro, fiddle, maracas, guitar, upright bass and more — on a mission to show that music has no borders. "We talk about different genres of the festival," ArtsQuest Senior Programming Officer Patrick Brogan said. "Larry and Joe ... my gosh, are they good. They're literally two gentlemen on stage that will capture you and keep you with them for 90 minutes. Just a great musicality to their show."
Hunkajunk, 8 p.m. Festplatz
Hunkajunk is an eight-piece collective of seasoned professionals who blaze their way through a diverse repertoire of funk, R&B/soul and rock retro hits, modern classics and original jams.
Cunningham and Associates, 8 p.m. Musikfest Café
An attraction of Cunningham & Associates is that frontman Don Cunningham is a former Bethlehem mayor, Lehigh County executive and state Secretary of General Services, and now is chief executive officer of Lehigh Valley Economic Development Corp. But he's also a capable frontman, especially covering Bruce Springsteen, and is backed by an all-star lineup of veteran Lehigh Valley musicians. The band is a regular at Musikfest, Wind Creek Bethlehem's Molten Lounge and other Valley haunts.
Dustbowl Revival, 9:30 p.m. Americaplatz
Country/folk/Americana/rock group Dustbowl Revival pushes the boundaries of what American roots music can be, and already has created memorable moments during earlier appearances at Musikfest and SteelStacks — including a 2019 show in ArtsQuest Center that ended with them surrounded by the audience. "Their folk-funk sound with the backing horns, more pop than ever in their newer music, the way they put together a show leaves you feeling great at the end of it," Brogan said. "And whether you're there for one song or the whole set, you will feel inspired as you walk away."
The RealZellyZel, 11 p.m. Community Stage
TheRealZellyZel is an up-and-coming rapper and music producer who gives audiences sounds from the '70s, '80s, '90s and early 2000s, with influences including Pharrell Williams and Michael Jackson. He reportedly caught the eye of filmmaker Spike Lee and had a cameo in Lee's Netflix series "She's Gotta Have It."
