ALLENTOWN, Pa. — A musician who over a 40-year career has transitioned from punk rock to Americana, country and alt Latino music, will perform at Allentown's Archer Music Hall, it was announced.

Alejandro Escovedo, a member of the musical family that has made stars of his brothers — percussionist Coke Escovedo, who played with Santana, and Pete Escovedo, father of Sheila E. — will play at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, in the venue's Arrow Room.

Tickets, at $45 for general admission standing, go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, July 25.

Tickets, at $45 each for general admission standing, go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, July 25, at The Archer website or at the venue box office at 939 Hamilton St., Allentown.

The announcement shows how The Archer, which opened in March, continues to ramp up its offerings. The same night as Escovedo's concert, the venue also will offer British rockers The Darkness in its main room.

From punk band to halls of fame

Escovedo started his career with the punk band The Nuns, who opened shows for The Sex Pistols in the 1970s. He later was a member of roots-rock band The True Believers and alt-country band Rank & File.

Since 1992, he has released 19 solo discs, including 2012’s “Big Station.” In 2014, his cover of The Dandy Warhols’ “We Used to Be Friends” was featured in the soundtrack for the movie “Veronica Mars.”

His most recent disc was last year's "Echo Dancing," on which he retraces the changes of his career. It was his first new album in six years.

Escovedo was inducted into the Austin City Limits Hall of Fame in 2021 and the Texas Heritage Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2023.

Escovedo recently performed on "Blame It On Eve," the new album of blues singer Shemekia Copeland, who on Saturday headlined ArtsQuest's Blast Furnace Blues Festival at SteelStacks.

Escovedo played at Wind Creek Event Center, then known as Sands Bethlehem Event Center, as the opening act for classic rockers Heart in 2013 and for roots rockers Los Lobos in 2012.

He played a headline show at Musikfest Cafe at ArtsQuest Center at SteelStacks in Bethlehem in 2017.
