BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Comedian Paula Poundstone will perform at Musikfest Cafe at ArtsQuest Center on Friday, Oct. 11.
In advance of the show, she spoke with WLVR-FM’s Brad Klein about her approach to comedy and her day job as a panelist on the weekly NPR news quiz show "Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me."
In a recent video post on the social media platform X, Poundstone says there is “no need” for childish jokes comparing Bethlehem with the biblical birthplace of Jesus.
Just seconds later, she says she doesn’t know where she’ll be staying on her visit, as there’s “no room at the inn.”
Besides some gentle ribbing at her host city, audiences can expect plenty of interaction with the performer.
“I do the time-honored 'Where are you from? What do you do for a living?'" Poundstone explained on WLVR.
"In this way, little biographies of audience members emerge, and I use that from which to set my sails.”
She said audiences can expect tales about her house full of animals — her cats are prominent in her social media posts — as well as pretty much whatever pops into her head after more than 40 years of performing.
“What I do on stage is really just an exaggeration, I suppose, of how I am in regular life," she said.
Paula Poundstone performs at the ArtsQuest Musikfest Cafe in South Bethlehem, Friday, Oct.11. She is the host of the Maximum Fun comedy podcast "Nobody Listens to Paula Poundstone." She can be heard on NPR radio station WLVR-FM, 10 a.m. Saturdays on "Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me."
