ALLENTOWN, Pa. — Lights, camera, cheap!

In celebration of National Cinema Day, theaters across the Lehigh Valley are offering a blockbuster discount — tickets for only $4 on Sunday, Aug. 27.

  • Movie theaters in Allentown, Easton and Center Valley will offer $4 movie tickets on National Cinema Day
  • The special savings will take place on Sunday, Aug. 27
  • Theaters and drive-ins will feature new and classic movies such as "Barbie," "Jurassic Park" and "Dazed and Confused"

Close to 20 films will be shown throughout the region, including summer hits "Barbie," "Oppenheimer," and "Little Mermaid."

Newer flicks such as "Blue Beetle," "Gran Turismo," "The Hill" and "Retribution" will also be shown.

The $4 ticket price applies to all movies and formats including IMAX.

A sneak peek of anticipated autumn releases is also expected to play before each screening.

For the whole family

Recent family faves "The Super Mario Bros. Movie," Disney's "The Little Mermaid" and "TMNT: Mutant Mayhem," and classic re-releases such as "Jurassic Park (3D)" and "American Graffiti" are also part of lineup.

Held at more than 3,000 theaters and 30,000 screens across the U.S., National Cinema Day was created in 2022 and organized by The Cinema Foundation, a non-profit affiliate of the National Association of Theater Owners.

'Dazed' in deals

It's Shankweiler's Drive-In first year participating in the event since co-owners Lauren McChesney and her partner, Matthew McClanahan, purchased the iconic venue in November.

The theater will screen cult classics "Dazed and Confused" and "Wet Hot American Summer."

As part of the fun, there will be photo ops and selfie stations along with chances to win movie-themed gifts from the Cinema Foundation.

“Whether indoors or outdoors, seeing a movie on a big screen is a memorable experience,” McClanahan said. "National Cinema Day is an opportunity to really celebrate that.”
