Hard rock band Shinedown will headline Musikfest's SteelStage

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Musikfest has added a hard rock act to its main stage lineup for 2024.

Shinedown, best known for its 2000s songs "Second Chance," "Sound of Madness" and "If You Only Knew," will headline Musikfest's Steel Stage on Aug. 3, it was announced.

It is the fourth headliner for what Musikfest has said it expects to be 11 headliners for this year's festival, scheduled to run Aug. 2-11, with an Aug. 1 preview night.

Tickets, at $55 to $143 for the standing pit area, are available for ArtsQuest members today and will go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 23 at the ArtsQuest Center box office at 101 Founders Way, Bethlehem, at www.musikfest.org and 610-332-3378.

Shinedown also played Musikfest's main stage in 2021. It originally was to have played at the 2020 festival, but that was canceled by the coronavirus pandemic.

Shinedown hit the charts in 2003 with its platinum debut album “Leave a Whisper” and its platinum hits “45” and “Simple Man.” Its sophomore album “Us and Them” also went platinum and produced the No. 1 Mainstream Rock chart hit “Save Me.”

Biggest success

But it was “The Sound of Madness,” the group’s third album, that gave Shinedown its biggest success.

The disc was the group’s first to break the Top 10 on Billboard’s overall albums chart, and produced six No.1 gold and platinum hits: “Second Chance,” the platinum title track and “If You Only Knew,” and the gold hits “Devour,” “The Crow & The Butterfly” and “Diamond Eyes (Boom-Lay Boom-Lay Boom).”

The album also crossed over to Billboard’s overall Top 10.

All of the group’s albums since have topped Billboard’s rock charts: 2012’s “Amaryllis” and 2015’s “Threat to Survival,” both of which went gold, and its 2018’s “Attention Attention” and its most recent, "Planet Zero" in 2020 All of those discs also crossed over to Top 6 on Billboard’s overall Albums chart.

“Amaryllis” had the gold hit “Bully” and “Threat to Survival” had the platinum hit “Cut the Cord” and the gold hit “State of My Head.”

And “Attention Attention” produced three straight No. 1 Mainstream Rock hits: “How Did You Love,” “Devil,” “Get Up” and “Monsters.”

Record-setting songs

With “Get Up,” Shinedown claimed the record for the most top 10 chart placements in the history of Billboard’s Rock Airplay chart with 25. All those songs peaked in the Top 5.

Three songs from "Planet Zero" — the title track, "Daylight" and "a Symptom of Being Human" — all hit No. 1 on the Mainstream Rock chart.

In all, Shinedown has had 20 songs that went to No. 1 — the most of any rock group. Fourteen of those went gold or platinum.

Shinedown also previously played in the Lehigh Valley in 2010 at Lehigh University’s Stabler Arena with Puddle of Mudd and Skillet that drew more than 3,000 people.

Previously announced shows for Musikfest's main stage are Rapper Ludacris, who will play Saturday, Aug. 10, country music group Old Dominion, who will perform Tuesday, Aug. 6 and Southern rockers Lynyrd Skynyrd who will play Wednesday, Aug. 7.

Tickets for all three shows remain on sale.
