NORTH WHITEHALL TWP. — In 1969, 400,000 people over three days converged on a New York farm for a historic music festival in upstate New York that turned into a zoo.
Fifty-six years later, a smaller music festival closer to home likely won't draw that many people. But it promises to be even more of a real zoo.
Zoostock, a one-day music festival that draws inspiration from the famed Woodstock music festival, is set for 5-9 p.m. Saturday, July 26, at Lehigh Valley Zoo.
It will offer performances by three artists, a wide selection of food, drink and (for ages 21 and older) brews and spirits, as well as themed crafts, after-hours zoo access and more.
Tickets, at $20 for ages 2-11 and $25 for ages 12 and older (infants are free), are available on the zoo website. Tickets for the event support the zoo's wildlife conservation efforts.Lehigh Valley Zoo website

"Embrace the groovy '60s and get together to celebrate conservation and community while the animals are most active," the zoo says on its website.
Animals, music, food and more
Woodstock actually was held on a farm, owned by Max Yasgur, so there were animals there, too, as there will be at Zoostock.
Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix or Santana won't be at Zoostock, but concerts at Zoostock will be on the zoo sundeck.
Zoostock will feature Lehigh Valley rock band The Living Things 5:15-6:15, Catasauqua-born Valley favorite singer-songwriter Melody Cruz 6:30-7:30 p.m. and Bethlehem psychedelic surf rockers Sun Bus 7:45-8:45 p.m.Lehigh Valley Zoo website

There probably will be more food offered at Zoostock than at the famously under-fed Woodstock.
Among the local foods offered will be Twisted Pita, Charlie’s Sausages, A Couple Craves, Pickle Pickel, Evie’s Organic Treats and Geakers Tacos.
Beverage vendors will include non-alcoholic kombucha from Portch Tea and brews and spirits from Talerico’s Tropical Winery, Sleepy Cat Urban Winery, Christmas City Spirits, and Bright Path Brewing.
Ages 21 and older also will be able to buy classic brews from the Zoo's Cockatoo Cafe.
Let's just hope the rain that washed out Woodstock stays away from Zoostock.
