'American Idol' runner-up will be supporting act for Pentatonix at Allentown Fair

"American Idol" runner-up David Archuleta will be the supporting act for a cappella act Pentatonix at Allentown Fair.

ALLENTOWN, Pa. — An "American Idol" runner-up who followed the show with a gold album and a No. 2 hit will be the supporting act for hit a cappella group Pentatonix's headline grandstand show at Allentown Fair, it was announced Tuesday.

David Archuleta, who at 17 finished second behind David Cook on the seventh season of "American Idol" in 2008, will be the supporting act at the show, at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31.

Tickets, at $72 and $92, are on sale at the fair box office and website. All show tickets include admission into the fair.

Archuleta followed up his time on "American Idol" with the single "Crush," which peaked at No. 2, then his self-titled debut album, which debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Albums chart and was certified gold.

He followed that with a Christmas album, "Christmas From the Heart," in 2009 that hit No. 2 on the Holiday Albums chart, and 2010's "The Other Side of Down," which peaked at No. 13. Another disc, "Glad Christmas Tidings" with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, hit No. 11 on the Holiday chart.

From 2008-10, he won seven Teen Choice Awards.

When Archuleta was 21, he put his music career on hold to volunteer for two years as a full-time missionary for the Latter-day Saints Church in Chile.

Archuleta has released five more albums since, with the latest being 2020's "Therapy Sessions," and this year released the non-album single "Hell Together."

Another non-album single, "I'm Yours," won Best Music Video at the Cannes World Film Festival.

Archuleta also won the 2024 GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Breakthrough Music Artist and has a memoir due out from HarperCollins.

After his time on American Idol, Archuleta performed headline shows at Allentown's former Crocodile Rock Cafe, and more recently at Stroudsburg's Sherman Theater and Sellersville Theater 1894.
