NORTHAMPTON, Pa. — An alternative rock band that in the 1990s had five Top 20 Mainstream Rock chart hits will help a Lehigh Valley venue honor its patrons.

Sponge, whose biggest hit, “Molly (16 Candles Down the Drain),” hit No. 3 on Billboard's Hot Modern Rock charts in 1994, will perform at The Gin Mill and Grill in Northampton.

Sponge will top a five-act show at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 13 in what the venue calls a "customer appreciation pre-Xmas bash."

Supporting acts will be Venom Assembly, Surrender to Eden, Lakini's Rooster and Intoxxxication.

Tickets, at $20 each for general admission standing, are available at TicketWeb.com.

Sponge's 1994 debut album, “Rotting Pinata,” was certified gold and included the 1994 Top 5 Modern Rock chart hit “Plowed” and the Top 20 Mainstream Rock hit "Rainin'."

But the group had its biggest success in 1995 with “Molly (16 Candles Down the Drain),” which crossed over to Billboard’s overall singles chart.

The group's sophomore album, 1996's "Wax Ecstatic," peaked at No. 60 on Billboard's Albums chart and had the hits “Wax Ecstatic (To Sell Angelina)” in 1996 and the No. 7 “Have You Seen Mary” in 1997.

Sponge’s music also was featured on soundtracks for ’90s movies “Mallrats,” “The Craft” and “Chasing Amy.”

Since "Wax Ecstatic," the group released seven more albums, with the latest being "1994," which was released in October.

Front man Vinnie Dombroski is the only remaining member from the classic lineup.

Sponge last played the area in 2017 at the former OneCenterSquare venue in Easton.

The band also played a paid show at Levitt Pavilion SteelStacks in Bethlehem as part of the annual Summerland Tour with fellow 1990s hit makers Sugar Ray, Everclear and Lit in 2016.
