UPPER SAUCON TWP., Pa. — Young filmmakers hope to walk away with awards, or at the very least, applause this weekend.
DeSales University Film Festival, or DUFF, will take place at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 23, in the university's Labuda Center for the Performing Arts.
The festival, now in its 24th year, will feature a dozen short films by students of the school's film/TV department.
The 12 short films featured will compete for best overall film (or the DUFFY), along with best screenwriting, best cinematography, best directing, best editing and sound design awards, and the award for audience choice.
Three photos are also up for awards that evening.
Judges will also honor three local high school students as part of the festival's second annual high school competition.
“Our students’ films get better and more ambitious every year, so DUFF works hard to reflect and foster that vision. We're so deeply grateful to have an expanded panel of adjudicators this year, with so many highly respected professionals representing such a wide range of the film and television industry,” said Michael Wagner and Mary McDermott, professors of TV/film at the school, in a release.
Paul Harrill, a director and film teacher, is judging this year's shorts.

Tickets are $18 for adults and $15 for seniors and students.
