The National Champion Pennsylvania Christmas Tree has been selected to grace the White House for the 2022 holidays

HARRISBURG, Pa. - At Paul and Pam Shealer's Evergreen Acres Tree Farm today, Pennsylvania's Agriculture Deputy Secretary Fred Strathmeyer Jr. joined White House Executive Usher Robert Downing and National Christmas Tree Association officials to select the tree that the Biden family will sing carols around at the White House this year.

  • The Shealers’ Schuylkill County farm, Evergreen Acres, won the 2020 Pennsylvania Farm Show Christmas Tree Competition
  • The tree farm continues to top the National Christmas Tree Association’s National Tree and Wreath Contest
  • White House selected a tree from the farm as this year's Christmas tree
  • In terms of tree sales, Schuylkill County has logged $1.9 million, ranking fourth in the state among 64 counties with tree farms

After winning the 2020 Pennsylvania Farm Show Christmas Tree Competition, The Shealers’ Schuylkill County farm went on to become the 2022 Grand Champion at the National Christmas Tree Association’s National Tree and Wreath Contest.

“Pennsylvania growers produce one million of the nation’s most impressive Christmas trees every year,” Strathmeyer said. “We’re proud to showcase our finest growers at the PA Farm Show each January.”

The deputy added that he is even prouder that a Shealer tree will represent and focus the eyes of the nation on world-class PA-grown products during the holidays.

“We were thrilled to win Grand Champion and are even more excited that Evergreen Acres will provide the White House’s official Christmas tree.”

Back in 2000, an Evergreen Acres tree was chosen for the Clinton White House after the Shealer family won the Pennsylvania and national contests.

Evergreen Acres has again been named Grand Champion of the 2022 Pennsylvania Farm Show with a nordmann fir.

“We were thrilled to win Grand Champion and are even more excited that Evergreen Acres will provide the White House’s official Christmas tree,” said Paul Shealer Sr., who recently handed over the business to his son, Paul.

Pennsylvania ranks third in the country with over 1,400 Christmas tree farms spread across the state. Each year, the tree farms cover nearly 31,000 acres and produce approximately one million cut trees. They are a renewable and recyclable resource.

As for Schuylkill County, it ranked fourth in the state among 64 counties with tree farms, and 25th in the United States, with $1.9 million in sales.
