ALLENTOWN, Pa. — One person was killed and two others were injured in a shooting early Friday morning on the city’s East Side, police said in a news release.
Officers responded around 1:30 a.m. to the Big Woody’s Sports Bar and Restaurant at 1302 Hanover Ave. for a reported shooting.
Upon arrival, they said they found two victims suffering from gunshot wounds.
Both victims were taken to a nearby hospital; one, 34-year-old David J. Gibbs from Allentown, later died from his injuries, while the other is expected to survive.
A third victim from the incident arrived at a hospital separately and also is expected to survive, according to police.
They say a fight led to the shooting.
The Allentown Police Department, along with the Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office, Lehigh County Homicide Task Force, and the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office are investigating.
Police said there is no danger to the public, but did not say if anyone was in custody and did not detail any further motive for the shooting.
"While the investigation remains ongoing, from what we have learned so far, there doesn’t appear to be any risk to the public connected to this incident," said Lehigh County District Attorney Gavin Holihan.
The Lehigh County Coroner's office said the shooting occurred inside Big Woody's.
Gibbs was pronounced dead at 2:40 a.m. at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg.
Coroner Daniel Buglio said Gibbs died of gunshot injuries and he ruled the manner of death homicide. He identified Gibbs as the victim late Friday morning.
An autopsy is set for Monday.

It’s the second fatal shooting at the location in recent years.
Allentown resident Anthony Rodgers, 42, was fatally wounded outside the bar and restaurant on Feb. 24, 2022.
City resident Loron Irving was later convicted of first-degree murder and possession of a prohibited firearm in Rodgers’ death.
