ALLENTOWN, Pa. — City police said they confiscated an all-terrain vehicle and charged the 23-year-old operator who fled from them.
Police announced the arrest Thursday of Hector Noel Ocasio, of Allentown.
- A law approved last year gives police power to seize ATVs and dirt bikes
- Police said drivers of several off-road vehicles fled when they tried to stop them April 27
- Police located one of the ATVs after serving a search warrant
It came a week after police said the driver was among a group of off-road vehicles driving illegally and dangerously in the street near Fourth and Gordon streets.
When officers tried to stop the group April 27, the riders allegedly fled.
Police said they were able to locate an ATV that was among the group after an investigation by the city's Dirt Bike & ATV Task Force.
They seized the vehicle after serving a search warrant at an address in the 300 block of North Fifth Street, according to a news release.
Ocasio is charged with fleeing and eluding police, disorderly conduct, reckless driving, driving with a suspended license and several other motor vehicle violations.
City police the past several summers have cracked down on the increasing number of off-road vehicles driven illegally on streets.
Last year, former Gov. Tom Wolf signed a law giving police power to confiscate ATVs and dirt bikes under the state’s asset forfeiture law.
