ALLENTOWN, Pa. - A weekend crackdown that included use of a Pennsylvania State Police helicopter yielded five arrests, two traffic citations and the confiscation of three dirt bikes in the city, state police said Monday.

State police said it was part of an enforcement detail with the Allentown Police Department from 3 to 11 p.m. Saturday. The effort, according to state police, produced:

  • Two traffic citations issued;
  • One drug-related arrest;
  • One arrest on a warrant;
  • Two arrests alleging fleeing and eluding police;
  • One gun-related arrest;
  • Recovery of a stolen moped/scooter, and
  • Three dirt bikes/ATVs seized.

“The PSP Aviation Unit was utilized during this detail and the helicopter assisted patrol units with providing overhead coverage to incidents that were occurring throughout the combined enforcement effort,” Trooper Nathan Branosky said in a news release.

“The Pennsylvania State Police and Allentown Police Department will continue with proactive details throughout the summer season.”

Allentown Police Chief Charles Roca issued a statement Saturday as the state police helicopter was in use.

“As part of our ongoing effort to enhance public safety, we have partnered with the Pennsylvania State Police and have their helicopter unit assisting us this evening along with a contingent of troopers,” he said.

“This partnership will continue through the summer to enhance relationships and make our community safer. I am grateful to the PSP and our officers working together to hold people accountable who choose to engage in criminal activity.”
