A man was struck and killed on Hamilton Boulevard in Allentown late Tuesday, authorities said, the third pedestrian killed in the city in 2024.

ALLENTOWN, Pa. — A Lackawanna County man was struck and killed by a vehicle on Hamilton Boulevard in Allentown late Tuesday, authorities said — the third pedestrian killed in the city in 2024.

Police were dispatched around 10 p.m. to the area in front of the Hamilton Family Restaurant in the 2000 block for a crash, a release said Wednesday.

Upon arrival, officers found Li-Qiang Hu, 42, with serious injuries. He was transported by Allentown EMS to a local hospital, but later succumbed to his injuries.

Hu's cause of death was multiple traumatic injuries related to the crash, the Lehigh County Coroner's office said. The manner of death was ruled an accident.

The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation, the release said.

Allentown couple hit, killed by vehicle in May

The accident occurred less than two months after a husband and wife were fatally struck by a vehicle in the city.

Frank R. Wyant, 83, and Marcella A. Wyant, 80, died from multiple blunt-force traumas after a vehicle hit them about 8:20 p.m. on Friday, May 3, as they walked near West Chew and North Main streets in Allentown.

The driver also stopped and cooperated with investigators, according to Allentown police.

Police said they were doing traffic enforcement in that area until about 20 minutes before the crash happened.

The fatalities come on the heels of the city having recently launched the Safe Streets for All project to end all pedestrian deaths in Allentown by 2030.

Five pedestrians were killed last year, and a dozen others were seriously injured, according to city officials.
