ALLENTOWN, Pa. — The body of an Allentown man was pulled from the Lehigh River on Thursday, hours after witnesses saw him jump from a bridge in the city, according to authorities.
The 28-year-old, who was not immediately identified, jumped from the Tilghman Street Bridge around 12:40 p.m., according to a news release from the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office.
His body was recovered around 4:15 p.m. and he was pronounced dead 30 minutes later, Coroner Dan Buglio said. The river was about 10 feet deep where his body was located, he said.
The man has been identified; Buglio said he would release his name after an autopsy is completed Friday.
Crews from the Allentown Fire Department’s Underwater Recovery and Technical Rescue teams were helped by city police and EMTs, as well as the Whitehall Fire Department’s Dive Team, and Lehigh County’s Special Special Operations and Drone teams, according to the coroner’s office.
