The coroner said he could not say exactly how many times police shot Hogans "due to [an] ongoing investigation."
Buglio on Tuesday ruled Hogan's death a homicide.
“Homicide by definition is ‘the killing of one person by another,’” the coroner said.
The Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office will “determine if a crime was committed,” Buglio said.
Allentown Police Department is investigating the fatal shooting with several Lehigh County agencies, including the district attorney’s office, homicide task force and coroner’s office, Assistant Police Chief Michael Becker said.
Third police shooting in 2023
Hogans’ fatal shooting early Monday morning was the third time police have opened fire in Allentown this year.
Allentown police officer Zane Strauss shot and killed 20-year-old Xavier Arnold on Feb. 10. Allentown police said Arnold assaulted someone then fired a gun at officers before Strauss shot him.
Lehigh County District Attorney Jim Martin ruled several weeks later that Strauss was justified in fatally shooting Arnold. No other officers fired their guns Feb. 10, Martin said.
A Pennsylvania State Police trooper shot at a driver but did not hit him during a June 16 traffic stop in Allentown.
State police said the driver — Paris Bartlett, 47, of Allentown — drove his car at a trooper as the trooper approached with his gun drawn. Bartlett swerved onto a curb just before hitting the trooper, state police said.
Allentown Police Department did not respond Monday or Tuesday to LehighValleyNews.com's request for comment.
