Lehigh County Coroner Dan Buglio on Thursday, July 17, identified Rufus Martin, 52, of Allentown, as the man who was killed in a July 4 collision between a scooter and a motor vehicle.

ALLENTOWN, Pa. — A scooter rider who died Wednesday from injuries after being hit by a vehicle July 4 was identified Thursday as a 52-year-old Allentown man.

Rufus Martin died from complications of blunt-force injuries he suffered in a collision between his scooter and motor vehicle, Coroner Dan Buglio said in a news release.

Martin was injured about 5:30 p.m, July 4 when he was struck by a vehicle on North Eighth Street near Chew Street, authorities said.

Martin was thrown off the scooter and onto the road, according to the coroner’s office.

He was thrown off the scooter and onto the road, according to the coroner’s office, which did not identify Martin on Wednesday as it “aggressively” worked to locate his relatives.

A crash earlier July 4 killed a 76-year-old man in Upper Macungie Township.

Thomas Hess was riding a pedal-assist electric bicycle when he was hit by a motor vehicle about 11:15 a.m. that day, Buglio said in a release.

Hess died about 4:15 p.m. July 4 at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest from blunt-force trauma, according to the coroner.
