Authorities seize 9 kilos of cocaine worth half a million dollars, arrest Allentown brothers

Jefran Canales-Tapia, 40, and Jeffrey Canales-Tapia, 37, were apprehended at their respective homes in Allentown and are awaiting arraignment on charges linked to drug possession and intent to deliver, officials said.

ALLENTOWN, Pa. — After seizing a stash of cocaine valued at half a million dollars, authorities charged two brothers from Allentown with being involved in a large-scale drug distribution.

Jefran Canales-Tapia, 40, and Jeffrey Canales-Tapia, 37, were apprehended at their respective homes in Allentown and are awaiting arraignment on charges linked to drug possession and intent to deliver, according to a release from Lehigh County District Attorney Gavin P. Holihan.

Allentown Police Department’s Emergency Response Team and the Lehigh County Warrant Service Team executed warrants at Jefran Canales-Tapia’s E Tremont Street home and Jeffrey Canales-Tapia’s Emaus Avenue home on the morning of Aug. 14, authorities said.

Jefran Canales-Tapia will be charged with possession with intent to deliver, criminal conspiracy to possession with intent to deliver, and simple possession, all related to cocaine.

Jeffrey Canales-Tapia will be charged with two counts of possession with intent to deliver cocaine and marijuana, criminal conspiracy to possession with intent to deliver cocaine, two counts of simple possession of cocaine and marijuana, and possession of a small amount of marijuana.

The district attorney’s release says 9 kilograms of cocaine were recovered from the Tremont Street home, with an estimated street value of half a million dollars.

A large amount of cash and half a pound of marijuana were found at the Emaus Avenue home, authorities said.

The investigation was supported with funding from the Liberty Mid-Atlantic High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area initiative.
