ALLENTOWN, Pa. — An investigation is underway into a non-fatal police-involved shooting that occurred Sunday at the former Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Hospital in Allentown, according to the Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office.
Good Shepherd also posted a short statement online describing the “isolated incident” at 850 S. Fifth St., which is no longer in operation; the hospital moved to Center Valley in 2023.
According to a release from District Attorney Gavin Holihan and Allentown Police Chief Charles Roca, police and emergency responders were dispatched to the location after reports of a woman in distress.
When first responders approached to assist the woman, she brandished a knife and threatened them. An officer then fired one shot, striking the woman, authorities said.
The woman received immediate emergency care and was taken to a local hospital for further treatment, the release said.
Officials emphasized that reports claiming the shooting was fatal are incorrect, and also said the woman was not a patient or resident of Good Shepherd.
The incident remains under investigation by the Allentown Police Department and the Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office.
Officials said the shooting was not an active shooter situation and that there is no ongoing risk to the public.
