- Allentown school board set to hire an attorney in the case of the recent demotion of former Allen High School Principal Cheryl Clark
- Clark was demoted to assistant principal last month
- Sources say she has not shown up to her new school assignment
ALLENTOWN, Pa. — The Allentown school board is scheduled to vote Thursday on hiring an attorney in its disciplinary demotion case of former William Allen High School Principal Cheryl Clark. She is identified in Thursday's agenda by her employee number, which was confirmed by a school district official.
If approved, the school district would hire Steve Jarmon of the Lamb McErlane PC law firm to act as a hearing officer at a rate of $225 per hour to the district.
The demotion to assistant principal on last month's personnel report took effect July 31 and reduced her salary to $105,000 a year. Clark was hired in August 2022 by former Superintendent John Stanford at a salary of $137,000. Frank Derrick, the district’s director of recruitment and retention, replaced Clark as acting principal of Allen.
Two sources say Clark was reassigned after the board's demotion to Dieruff High School but has not shown up for work since she was scheduled to begin her role there.
Clark was put on administrative leave in April and then demoted by the school board after complaints about her management style. Students and staff members said she would yell at them and demean them.
