ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Lehigh Valley Health Network has received $4.5 million in Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program funds to expand two of its intensive care units.

With $3.5 million, the network will expand the neonatal intensive care unit at its Cedar Crest facility.

When completed, the NICU will have up to 50 beds and will add negative pressure rooms which help prevent the transmission of airborne diseases. The unit will also have special procedure rooms.

The remaining $1 million will go to LVH-Muhlenberg to expand its Level II trauma center, which will grow to 28 beds. The grants were secured by state lawmakers including Sen. Pat Browne (R-Lehigh) and Sen. Lisa Boscola (D-Northampton) and Rep. Ryan Mackenzie (R-Lehigh) and Rep. Jeanne McNeill (D-Lehigh).
