ALLENTOWN, Pa. - People who need food in Allentown will soon have one more healthy option. After one year in Easton, the Vegan Food Pantry is moving.
Visitors to the vegan pantry will find a variety of fresh produce. Pantry organizer Sheryl Petrillo says there are lots of meatless options.
“Whole grains, rice and quinoa. We have cereals and plant-based milks,” Petrillo said.
Anyone from the region is welcome, but Petrillo said the pantry is moving to Allentown because more people there need free food.
“People in that community need access, better access. They deserve better,” she said.
Including non-vegans.
“We want them to eat better, we want them to eat more compassionately,” Petrillo said.
Petrillo said many who pick up food are feeding multiple people in need.
“There may be 20 people who come, but through our survey, we find out they’re feeding family or neighbors,” she said.
The donated produce comes from Wegmans, the Rodale Institute and Hunter Hills CSA, a community-supported agriculture organization.
The pantry will be held on the first and third Sundays of each month starting in September and will be located in Franklin Park which is located between North Franklin Street and North 14th Street to the east and west, and Russell Street and Emmett Street to the north and south.
