Allentown police said the crash occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning, Dec. 10, 2023.

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - Two people died after they were hit by a car early Sunday in Allentown, according to police.

It happened around 1:15 a.m. in the 300 block of West Hamilton Street.

Assistant Police Chief Michael Becker said first responders were called to an accident involving pedestrians and found two victims who were taken by ambulance to the hospital.

A 44-year-old man and a 43-year-old woman were the victims, according to Lehigh County Coroner Dan Buglio.

Both succumbed to their injuries and were pronounced dead at Lehigh Valley Hospital - Cedar Crest. The operator of the vehicle was not injured, Becker said in a news release.

Buglio said the victims have been identified and their families have been notified, but their names are not immediately being released. Autopsies will be scheduled, he said.

Police said they are continuing an investigation with the Lehigh County District Attorney's Office and the Lehigh County Coroner's Office.

First Assistant District Attorney Gavin Holihan, who was elected district attorney and will take over the office next month, said he would not provide additional details about the crash, pending further investigation.
