Health officials are calling it the fall resurgence of the COVID-19 pandemic. In just the past week, Pennsylvania has seen some of the highest daily totals of positive coronavirus cases since the pandemic began. WLVR’s Brittany Sweeney takes a look at who is being infected in the Lehigh Valley.
For the last few weeks, the Pennsylvania Department of Health reported more than 1,000 cases per day - on par with the height of the pandemic last April.
Now, Health Secretary Dr. Rachel Levine is urging people to disclose who they’ve had contact with.
"I cannot stress enough how critical this information is, and how important it is for people to participate fully in the case investigation process and the contact tracing process."
Dr. Jeffrey Jahre of St. Luke’s University Health Network says in the Lehigh Valley, numbers are not growing as fast as other areas, but he is seeing an increase in younger people between 19 and 24, like the rest of the state.
“They're generally very social at that age. They know that in general, they're less likely to have major symptoms or complications and so there's a, I think a relaxation on their part,” said Jahre.
The infectious disease specialist points out that although numbers are climbing, not as many people are being admitted to the hospital or dying from coronavirus.
