ALLENTOWN, Pa. — The Allentown School Board will vote on the resignation of one of its school directors at its monthly meeting Thursday.
School Director Daysell Ramirez plans to step down after six months on the job, according to a spokesperson for Allentown School District who confirmed the resignation plans earlier this month.
To make it official, the board must approve the resignation in a vote at Thursday's meeting, which starts at 7 p.m. and is held in the ASD Administration Building, 31 S. Penn St. Ramirez's resignation is listed on the Board of Directors report, which is an agenda item for the meeting.
Ramirez was first elected in November 2023 and sworn in that December.
Resignation letter details
She informed the board of her plans to resign in a July 7 letter, which was obtained by LehighValleyNews.com. Ramirez did not respond to requests for comment on the matter when a reporter reached out earlier this month.
In the letter, Ramirez cited tensions with other school directors and the district administration as a reason for her decision. She also cited personal reasons.

Ramirez claimed there are issues on the board related to “bullying,” “poor professionalism,” “issues with transparency” and a “lack of urgency” related to policy and governing.
Board President Andrene Brown-Nowell did not respond to requests for comment earlier this month.
After Ramirez's resignation is approved, the board will hold public interviews for candidates seeking to be appointed to the open seat. Information on the process has not yet been made public.
According to state law, the board will have 30 days to fill the vacancy by a majority vote.
