ALLENTOWN, Pa. - A public forum was the venue officials chose to explain the process and get feedback on the changes coming to a local school.
Shelia Alvarado has two kids in the Allentown School District. She said it's more important for all parents to be informed when changes like rezoning schools are on the table.
“Parents might have a kid that’s in Kindergarten who can’t go to the school that’s closest to where they live and then they have to drop off their kids at two different schools.”
The district said closing Cleveland and Mckinley while opening a new school requires the districts to be re-drawn it's part of a plan to help balance enrollment for schools.
Other elementary schools that could be affected in the re-districting process are Ramos, Central, Jackson and Sheridan.
Among topics raised at the forum: what services need to be in place at the new school and what fears parents have about the change.
District officials say they are planning additional meetings on the plans.
For those unable to attend the meetings, the district will be posting a survey on its website about the changes.
