EASTON, Pa. – Northampton County Council met Thursday night but was unable to consider ordinances or hold hearings.
- Northampton County Council couldn't take any official action Thursday night due to an administrative mistake
- Pennsylvania’s Sunshine Act rules that public agencies must post a meeting's agenda at least 24 hours before it starts
- The items scheduled for Thursday's meeting will be taken up at the Feb. 2 meeting
At the start of the meeting, the council’s solicitor, Christopher Spadoni, announced that commissioners couldn’t take any official action because of an issue with the meeting’s agenda.
Under Pennsylvania’s Sunshine Act governing public meetings, public organizations with a website must post the agenda for a meeting at least 24 hours before it is scheduled to begin.
The items scheduled — a personnel request from the District Attorney’s office, a public hearing on a county lease and executive appointments — will be taken up at the Feb. 2 meeting instead.
County Executive Lamont McClure used the time Tuesday night to make his case for a new county-run clinic for its employees, operated through a partnership with New Jersey-based Integrity Health.
Earlier this month, the council overrode a veto from McClure to place restrictions on the project.
