A local nonprofit is teaming with a professional sports league to help get kids signed up for sports on May 29.
“There's a low turnout in inner cities, and urban cities with sports. Period. So what they want to do, first off, is see how many kids are interested, where is the need, so they can become more interactive with the community,” says Jessica Ortiz, executive director and founder of the Ortiz Ark Foundation.
Jessica’s daughter and Foundation Event Coordinator, Jalyssa Ortiz, says playing sports growing up was invaluable.
“I have good relationships with my old coaches and at one point or another they became mentors. There are different ways to create beneficial relationships with sports along with activity and exercise,” she says.
Every child who registers to play a sport at the event will get a free bat and ball.
Parents will receive a free subscription to MLB TV.
