Local activists are using the momentum built from recent protests to register people to vote, and get some ready to run. Ashleigh Strange of Lehigh Valley Stands Up is a local organizer.
“If you are in a position of power and you are unwilling to make those changes that we need to see in our community, you should not feel comfortable in your elected seat. We have a number of people who are going to be trained and ready to run…”
Allentown city council members Joshua Seigel and Ce-ce Gerlach were there.
Gerlach says there are going to be more uncomfortable conversations.
“It's ok for people to become passionate, it's ok for people to get angry, it's ok for people to be upset. What's important is at the end of the day the piece of legislation passes and is strong and is going to help people… “
Beyond registering more people to vote...activists also want to sign up more volunteer poll workers.
