Jenny and The Mexicats will play Musikfest's Americaplatz on Sunday, Aug. 13

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Welcome to LehighValleyNews.com's Fest in Show, a daily offering of some of the can't-miss acts on the stages of Musikfest.

Read us daily during Musikfest for suggestions of the best music — and more.

The music

Dina Hall, 1 p.m. Lagerplatz and 6 p.m. Lyrikplatz
Bethlehem-based singer-songwriter Dina Hall has a palette that includes blues, folk, Americana and indie music and has been a leader in the regional music community for nearly 25 years. She has a new album, "Firefly," due out in summer.

Jenny & the Mexicats, 7 p.m. Americaplatz
Jenny and the Mexicats is a fusion of nationalities — English, Spanish and Mexican — and musical genres, as well, with ingredients of jazz, Latin, rockabilly, flamenci, folk, reggae, country and World Music, with a trumpet-playing frontwoman. "It's a mix of English- and Spanish-language lyrics throughout the course of the show, throughout the course of songs, and high energy," ArtsQuest Programming Director Patrick Brogan said. "A group that, while rooted in Mexican musical tradition, is very accessible for a pop festival audience like Musikfest. They're going to be a lot of fun."

Maya Belardo, 4:30 p.m. Zinzenplatz
Maya Belardo is a native of Wilmington, Delaware, where, at just 24 years old, she's known as "The Princess of Jazz," according to her publicity material. "Gorgeous vocals," Brogan said.

Angela Perley, 6:30 p.m. Zinzenplatz
Angela Perley, who hails from Columbus, Ohio, is "a great vocalist," Brogan said. "More alt-country, I'd say." In her publicity material, Perley calls herself "rooted in cosmic alt-country, roadhouse rock 'n' roll, witchy-woman psychedelia and amplified Americana, it's a vintage sound for the modern world."

Mukamuri, 6 p.m. Stadtplatz
Though R&B/soul singer Mukamuri is from Doylestown, Bucks County, just 30 or so miles south of Musikfest, it will be his first time at the festival. "A retro-soul sound we really like," says Brogan, who promised he would attend the performance.

Grand finale

As is customary, Musikfest 2023 will come to a close with an aerial fireworks display, set for 10 p.m.

Some of the best viewing spots are right where the music acts are performing — Americaplatz at the SteelStacks campus in South Bethlehem or Stadtplatz at Payrow Plaza off East Church Street, near city hall and Bethlehem Area Public Library.
