BETHLEHEM, Pa. — State Rep. Joshua Siegel, D-Lehigh Valley, announced Friday he will seek re-election for a second, two-year term.
Siegel, 29, a Bethlehem native and former member of Allentown City Council, represents the 22nd Legislative District, which includes parts of Allentown and Salisbury Township.
“I’m running to continue to address the crisis of affordability that Pennsylvanians are facing here in the Lehigh Valley and across the commonwealth,” Siegel said in a news release.
“In my first year, I was proud to increase the Property Tax Rent Rebate for the first time since 2007, helping seniors stay in their homes. I also increased the maximum amount for the child tax credit to $2,100 for families and the largest basic education increase in the history of the state.
Siegel helped make Allentown the fifth municipality in the state to offer paid family leave to its employees. He also fought to protect abortion access in the city and wants to continue to advocate for working families, the news release stated.

“This session, I’ll be introducing historic and first-of-its-kind housing attainability legislation to help reduce the cost of housing in the Lehigh Valley,” Siegel said.
Siegel also said he is focused on promoting smart growth and development to preserve the quality of life in the Lehigh Valley, continued support for unions, work to increase investments in public safety and gun violence prevention and address the historic underfunding of public schools.
In the 2022 general election, Siegel easily won Allentown’s empty 22nd District state House seat over Republican Robert Smith, a former Allentown School Board member.
The seat was made possible through redistricting made with the intent to provide greater opportunities for minority candidates.
