Pa. hunting, fishing licenses are going digital

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Pennsylvania has a new, tech-savvy option for hunters and anglers: digital licenses.

The Pennsylvania Game Commission and the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission’s new web platform allows people to apply for and download licenses in PDF form

Game Commission spokesperson Travis Lau said that means some hunters may keep their documents on a smartphone.

“A hunter could conceivably carry those PDFs, stored on that device, into the field, and would never really have to bother with bringing a paper license along,” Lau said.

Still, hunters who hunt big game—like turkey, deer and bear—will need to carry a paper license. Lau said that’s to help on-site gameland officials verify that the harvested animals were taken lawfully, and because big game must be tagged.

Registered users, Lau says, will be able to log onto their online profile each year to renew.

“In the new Hunt Fish PA system, each hunter gets a hunter profile, which makes for easy access, and really it’s a short path to downloading your digital license from there,” Lau said.
