READING, Pa. - At a recent stop in Reading, the governor touted the success of the targeted vaccination effort.
“Vaccinating teachers and staff not only protects our schools, it helps entire communities. It helps the entire Commonwealth get back on track, get one step closer to normal,” Wolf says.
In Berks County alone, Wolf says, the task force is expected to vaccinate as many as 5,000 educators by March 19 with the one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
“We chose to take advantage of the flexibility that this particular vaccine provides to allow us to swiftly implement a vaccination program for school employees,” he says.
Wolf did not set a timetable for when all educators and school staff might be vaccinated. More than 120,000 educators teach in Pennsylvania’s public schools.
But, he says, the state is focused on prioritizing vaccines for those who work with the youngest and most vulnerable students.
