HARRISBURG, Pa. - Pennsylvania is short a million COVID-19 vaccines and state health officials learned there are none left in the federal reserve.
The vaccines were promised to the commonwealth by the Trump Administration.
The six figure allocation of doses from the federal stockpile was earmarked to ramp up vaccine distribution across the state in the coming weeks.
But a Pennsylvania health department spokesman says that won’t happen now. He confirmed to WLVR News that the U.S. Health and Human Services Department says that there’s no reserve of vaccines to send.
That leaves the state with only its limited weekly allocations. People waiting for their second shot will still get one.
But, it will now take longer for some currently eligible people - like essential workers - to get the vaccine.
A state health department spokesman calls the revelation “troubling/ and disappointing.”
