SALISBURY TWP., Pa. - A clinic dedicated specifically to wound care is now open in Salisbury Township. Lehigh Valley Wound Specialists and Negative Pressure clinic offers those coming in with varying degrees of injuries specialized care with a physical therapist.

  • Lehigh Valley Wound Specialists and Negative Pressure clinic is located on Cedar Crest Boulevard
  • Treats wide range, everything from chronic, traumatic, surgical, vascular, post-operative, non-healing and amputations
  • It is operated independently and an appointment is needed to be seen

"My one-to-one time is a lot more flexible now, I have more resources and I am not as worried about my productive time," said Dr. Thomas Shaughnessy, who started the clinic.

"Some of the treatments I provide can take more than an hour, and that is not always conducive in a hospital environment. There is no other place in the Lehigh Valley or surrounding region that does this. There are wound clinics but there are none staffed by physical therapists dedicated to this area of medicine," he said.

Shaughnessy said his office offers more time with patients than a traditional hospital.

He previously worked for Lehigh Valley Health Network and said this new practice gives him the chance to focus specifically on the individual’s injury. The wounds they treat span a wide range: everything from chronic, traumatic, surgical, vascular, post-operative, non-healing to amputations.

"We are constantly trying to get a response from the wound, as opposed to more typical care where they clean it and change the dressing," the doctor said.

The clinic, located on Cedar Crest Boulevard, is operated independently and an appointment is needed to be seen.
