ALLENTOWN, Pa. - There are no confirmed cases of coronavirus in the Lehigh Valley or Pennsylvania, according to the state Health Department but local colleges are confronting the risk of infection for students studying overseas and traveling for spring break.
Cedar Crest College’s study abroad program in Rome has been cancelled mid-semester by its partner organization A-I-F-S Study Abroad. That decision came on the heels of the C-D-C’s new Warning Level 3 - or “avoid non-essential travel” classification for Italy.
Cedar Crest is continuing its Sophomore Expedition to London at this time. However, students who travel from Warning Level 3 countries for spring break are now required to quote “self-isolate” for no less than 14 days, whether or not they have coronavirus symptoms.
In an email sent on Friday, Lehigh University issued a similar directive.
The college is requiring all members of its community to report travel to “Warning Level 3” and “Alert Level 2” countries to campus health officials, and then “self-monitor” for symptoms for 14 days before returning to campus.
